I’m Not Who You Think I’m Not #33: The day after the museum
Museal Episodes. On the global future of museums
Performative symposium, in English
With Anna-Catharina Gebbers, Gabi Ngcobo, Hermann Parzinger, Luiza Proença, Marcelo Rezende, Marina Fokidis, Marion Ackermann, Matthias Mühling, Natalia Majluf, Övül Durmuşoğlu, Yilmaz Dziewior, and Zdenka Badovinac
What challenges are museums likely to face in the future? Are museums still best suited as venues for exhibiting, documenting, presenting, and archiving collections as well as initiating interaction between the viewer and the object?
In view of globalization, answering such questions has taken on an international dimension. For example, what consequences can we draw from the fact that collections frequently have a strong European and North American cultural orientation? What role do digitalization and the possibilities of virtual reality play with respect to new models, methods, and structures in museums?
For the project Museal Episodes, internationally renowned museum directors and curators have continuously met over the last three years at different places in the world to discuss the global future of museums. On occasion of the 10th Berlin Biennale, the participants meet in Berlin to continue previous conversations in this public performative symposium.
